Day 1: Amman

Direct flight with Royal Jordanian to Amman. On arrival transfer to your hotel.

Day 2: Amman - Jerash - Ajloun

This morning visit the downtown area of Amman, including the Citadel, Temple of Hercules, Ummayad Palace and Roman Theatre. Stroll around Amman's crowded streets, souks and markets and sample some of Jordan's best street food. After lunch drive to the spectacular Roman ruins of Jerash for a tour of this archaeological site. The city's many monuments still retain the atmosphere of the once thriving metropolis, famous in its time for its magnificent temples, amphitheatres and plazas. From the buildings and the many other well-preserved structures, it is easy to imagine the city in its heyday. Next travel to Ajloun, dominated by the imposing fortress of Qa'lat Al Rabat. This evening stay in Ajloun in the Wild Jordan Cabins, your simple cabin has private facilities and a terrace from which to enjoy the views. (B,L,D)

Day 3: Ajloun

There are a variety of hiking trails from the cabins of different grades and lengths. The Rockrose trail will take you through valleys and along ridges passing through villages and orchards. There are panoramic views into West bank and Syria as well. A more gentle trail is the Prophet's trail taking you through a rolling landscape to a church to see the mosaics. (B,L,D)

Day 4: Ajloun - Dana Nature Reserve

Drive south in to the Dana Nature Reserve. Dana Nature Reserve is the largest in Jordan covering a spectrum of landscapes from deserts to mountains and wadis and is home to a variety of plant, bird and animal species. The Dana Guesthouse is set on the edge of Wadi Dana with views across the reserve from the rooms. (B,D)

Day 5: Dana Nature Reserve

The village of Dana is close by with its museum and craft workshops which you may like to visit, or take one of the many walks available in the area. The 8km White Dome trail follows the escarpments of Wadi Dana whilst passing through the village terraces and giving grand views of the Wadi. (B,L,D)

Day 6: Dana Nature Reserve

A full day's 14km walk today takes you down the sandstone wadi through the nature reserve to the area of Feynan, stop on the way in this beautiful area for a picnic lunch with your Bedouin guide. The eco-lodge provides a beautiful night's stay as at night it is entirely lit with candles, the roof top terrace makes an ideal place for star gazing at night. (B,L,D)

Day 7: Dana Nature Reserve - Petra

Leaving the eco-lodge you will drive to Little Petra, the lesser known Nabatean city in the area, after time here to explore the narrow gorge with its temples and carved facades you will walk along a trail which takes you to the back entrance of Petra. Arriving by this route, away from the other tourists provides the monastery as your first glimpse of the ancient city. You will then wind your way down the steps in to the main streets and exit through the siq to your hotel. (B)

Day 8: Petra

A full day in the Nabatean city of Petra. A local guide will lead you through the siq to the treasury and the main sights this morning. Learn about the history of the city and the remarkable innovations they used to build and live in the city. Visit the tombs, temples, Roman theatre and colonnaded streets. The afternoon is free for you to explore, perhaps head up to the High Place of Sacrifice and then use the back route past some of the lesser seen temples to return. (B)

Day 9: Petra - Dead Sea

This morning you will drive north stopping at the large and well-preserved hill top crusader castle of El Kerak on your way to the Dead Sea. Spend tonight in the Mujib Cabins, set on their own peninsula in the Dead Sea. Your afternoon is free for you to relax in the saline waters or take a walk in the Mujib Nature Reserve home to a many river filled canyons. Depending on the time of year some of the walks are through the rivers.(B,D)

Day 10: Dead Sea - Amman

Transfer to the airport for your return flight. (B)
